Matillano Family, 2021

Meet the Matillano family. Originally from the Philippines, they moved to Hawaii in 2007 in pursuit of a better and secured future. It was no easy feat but this hardworking family was able to purchase their first Maui home in 2015. They were also able to build their dream house back in the Philippines as an additional investment.

Fast forward to 2021, parents Ronaldo and Emelia could not be happier as they are preparing for their early retirement. Selwyne, the youngest of the siblings, will be finishing his Nursing degree soon without owing any student loans. His older sisters, Sheila and Shine also have stable jobs in retail and hotel respectively.

So, how did this family of five thrive in Hawaii, where the cost of living is highest in the nation? Two words - Financial Discipline.
